The Gemini stepper drives are compatible with third-party step motors including those from Empire Magnetics http://www.empiremagnetics.com

MotionPlanner software's Program Editor has Gemini in the toolbar that can help guide the user for configuring the drive.

The Gemini has different modes. ie, GT can be set in analog velocity mode, or step & direction mode, the GT6 and GT6K is programmable. There are many commands used to set the drive such as DRES for drive resolution (steps per rev) and DMODE (drive control mode).  There are different commands for the GT vs the GT6 and the GT6K.

Only the motor commands need to be changed for using third-party step motors which are the same for GT, GT6 or GT6K.

The easiest way to setup a Gemini for an Empire motor is:

  1. Proceed through the Gemini Setup Wizard.  You can select any motor.

  2. After clicking Finish, code will be generated:

  1. Then you can highlight the lines from DMTR to DIGND and replace with the text from the appropriate motor from below zip file:

  2. Then download to the Gemini drive.

Note these files are for Empire's standard industrial step motors which are modified for different environments. Applications will need to be reviewed by an engineer to determine if any other changes are necessary. The Gemini is designed as a standard industrial stepper drive and typically need to be installed in a controls cabinet, protected from any harsh environment (dust, radiation, etc) that the motor is within.
