Use of an external source to supply excitation voltage to encoders connected to an ACR controller card:

Do not use the VCC or GND connections of the P1A or P1B connectors. These connections go to the +5VDC and Common of the power supply used to operate the ACR controller card. They are used only to supply encoder excitation voltage and are not used when using an external encoder power supply.

NOTE: Connecting an external voltage source to these connections can damage the ACR controller card.

Connect the quadrature inputs (CHA+, CHA-, CHB+, CHB-) and marker inputs (ZR+, ZR-) to the appropriate differential inputs on the P1 connector. There is no need to connect the common of the external power supply to the GND connections of the P1 connector.

Determine if the encoder requires pull-up resistors and the correct setting of the jumpers to supply +5VDC or +12VDC to the pull-up resistor networks on the ACR controller card.

If the encoder is Differential Line Driver and supplies an output voltage greater then +5VDC be sure not to exceed the encoder input maximum differential range of +/- 24VDC.
