In North America, there are several agencies which regulate product standards: UL,OSHA, EPA, National Electric Code, and FCC Emissions. Europe also has several agencies. In 1993, the CE (Conformite Europe) was established to ensure conformity with a number of directives and permit free movement of product throughout the European Union. The 'CE' marking is an indication that the device has undergone some form of third party verification and validation process acceptable to th European Economic community.
