What Replaces the PAC320?

The PAC320 series controller was retired in 2022. Two new PAC controllers are available as suitable replacements. The PAC120 and PAC340 inherit the key features of the PAC320:

• EtherCAT communications for motion and I/O

• Supports the PACIO modules

• Utilizes CODESYS Development Software 3.5.16.40

  • PAC320 used Parker Automation Manager, or PAM, which was a Parker-ized version of CODESYS 3.5.9

  • PAM projects can be opened with CODESYS and upgraded to support the new PAC’s

Extended Communications

Dimensions

The PAC120 and 340 are DIN rail mounted like the PAC320 but take up less space along the length of the rail.

EtherCAT

All versions of the PAC support EtherCAT.

• The PAC320 had both an e-bus connector (side) for I/O modules and an RJ-45 for extending EtherCAT out to drives and remote modules.

• PAC120 includes an e-bus connector (side) for I/O modules but does not have an RJ-45 for extending EtherCAT out to drives and remote modules. To utilize the PAC120 with drives and/or remote I/O nodes, you must use the PACIO-400-02 Extender module. Using an extender module enables the ability of controlling external EtherCAT slaves.

• The PAC340 can utilize either X4 (front LAN) port OR the e-bus (side connector) for EtherCAT. Only one of these can be configured for EtherCAT connections, not both.

  • EtherCAT on the e-bus (X9): By default, PAC340 uses the e-bus as EtherCAT. PACIO can connect directly to that e-bus without modification or accessory requirements. For connecting EtherCAT drives or to a remote I/O node the PACIO-400-02 Extender module is required. This connects to the e-bus and allows two 'Out' ports for RJ45 EtherCAT network configuration. If you are using a Remote I/O node, you will also need the PACIO-400-00 Bus Coupler module for the RJ45 connection.
