PDS Power Dump Option (-D)

The PDS15 offers a regenerative power dump option(-D) for applications that have high inertia loads or require rapid deceleration. The PDS15-D has the same electrical specifications as the PDS15, but it incorporates a power dump with a continuous rating of 15 Watts (170 Watts Peak).
To determine if the -D option is recommended for your application, use the following formula:
Metric Formula
t < (Jw^2 - 0.1)
where t is deceleration time in seconds
J is the total system inertia in Kg-m^2
w is maximum speed in revolutions per second
English Formula
t < (0.02Jw^2 - 100)
where t is deceleration time in milliseconds
J is the total system inertia in oz-in^2
w is maximum speed in revolutions per second
If the above expression is true, meaning the deceleration time is less than the expression in brackets, then the -D option is recommended.
If the above expression is false, meaning the deceleration time is greater than the expression in brackets, then the -D option is not required.
Compumotor strongly recommends the -D option for applications using 42(106) frame motors.
