Aries Ethernet Powerlink (EPL) Replacement (AR-04PE, AR-08PE, AR-13PE)

Aries PE drives are no longer available for sale. Repairs will be supported for three years or until supplies of repair parts are exhausted. Contact your local Parker Automation Technology Center (ATC) distributor for an RMA number for repairs.

Suggested Replacements  

Aries PE drives were used exclusively with Parker ACR9030/9040 Ethernet Powerlink controllers. The Compax3 also has an Ethernet Powerlink option for use with ACR EPL controllers and would be the best choice for replacement.

Control Interface

The ACR controller creates a private Ethernet Powerlink network for controlling servo drives. Both Aries PE and Compax3 with (designated part numbers) can be included in the network. Most of the controller-to-drive and motion functions are the same regardless of which drive is used. Existing projects will require minor configuration changes when substituting Compax3 for Aries PE. In some cases, minor modification to programs may be necessary. Parker’s Application Engineering team can help review project.

Motor Feedback

The Aries also supports the obsoleted (in 2013) Parker “Q” and “3E” smart encoders. These smart encoders provided the Aries with motor configuration data and incremental position (TTL) data. Halls signal were not included with these motors. When using P Series or Compax3 with Q or 3E smart encoders, hall-less commutation would be required. Please evaluate if this method is appropriate for the application. If not, motor replacement with a suitable encoder is necessary.
