Why Lamination Designs Skew or Angle Their Magnets?

Skewing the magnets in some linear motor designs is a tradeoff between lowering peak motor forces to attain less ripple force. This occurs only with Hall Effect Commutation. When Sinusoidal commutation is used, then the skewed magnets provide no benefit. Rotary brushless DC motors have long used this technique for the same reason. Trilogy uses Sinusoidal Commutation routinely and does not skew the magnets.
