Parker periodically reviews the business case for each active product and if necessary deems them obsolete. The conditions that bring about a product’s obsolescence vary from low sales volume to component availability to technological improvements that make the product irrelevant.

The PS40 planetary in-line gearhead was moved to obsolescence in 2008 and Parker shared Bulletin 801 to notify customers on March 10, 2008. Below is a link to the bulletin, and included on page 2 are cross over charts giving both performance and dimensional comparisons to the PV40.
