Why Is My AC Motor Running Hot?

  1. MOTOR CONNECTIONS:

    1. Make sure the motor is rated for inverter-duty.

    2. Make sure the stator is properly connected for the voltage provided by the inverter.

    3. Make sure there are no loose motor connections.

  2. INVERTER SETTINGS:

    1. For SV or Closed-loop Mode, make certain the magnetizing current is not set too high.

    2. b. For V/Hz mode, make sure the boost is not set too high.

  3. RUNNING CONDITIONS:

    1. Is there a Blower on this motor?

      1. Are the blower filters clogged?

      2. Is there free airflow through the motor?

      3. What is the ambient temperature?

    2. Does the motor run below 25% speed for extended periods of time (without forced air cooling)?

    3. Is the motor running with the motor torque >75% for extended periods of time (without forced air cooling)?
