FTP Support
Is it possible to access the USB port by FTP?
Yes, the entire file system is accessible over FTP including the RAM drive, SD card and USB thumbdrive(s) if any are plugged in. Currently, the FTP server is available on all PAC models running firmware 1.3.0 or higher. Xpress user administration controls the user permissions. The default account is Admin with a blank password.
You can access the FTP server using Windows File Explorer or Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer will allow you to download files, but File Explorer will also allow you to upload files, delete files and add/delete folders. You can access it using network file addresses like the ones given below.
Examples:
ftp://Admin:Password@172.25.8.25
ftp://Admin@192.168.10.50 (default for X2 port)
SD Card Path
ftp://Admin@192.168.10.50/System/Hard Disk
External USB Drive Path (first drive found)
ftp://Admin@192.168.10.50/System/Hard Disk2
External USB Drive Path (second drive found)
ftp://Admin@192.168.10.50/System/Hard Disk3
PAC RAM Drive
ftp://Admin@192.168.10.50/System/
Note the project and firmware resides on the SD card and thus users need to be careful writing to the SD card. The preferred method of storing files on the PAC is to transfer them down to a USB stick that resides in one of the PAC's USB ports. The drive should be formatted as FAT32.
Sometimes, users may want to transfer down a file that is intended to be temporary. Examples include CNC files, recipe files and other files that may be useful in the process. In this case, it is often better to transfer the file to the RAM drive instead of a USB stick. This is because the RAM drive is faster than USB and will not wear out over time like the flash cells in a USB drive will. Note that all files stored in the RAM drive are lost when the PAC powers down.
Is it possible to define a default directory for FTP access, which is active after a FTP connection has been established?
No, currently it is not possible but is something that we could add in the future.
The FTP server is also available on PACs running firmware 1.2.1 or 1.2.0 that have an X or B in their model number as shown below:
