The PAC has 256kB retentive memory and option for 512kB.

These are high-endurance FRAM memory chips rated at 100 trillion read-writes and a 38 year data retention life @75C (or 151 years at 65C). 

This means, assuming the encoder position is written to the FRAM every 100ms, for 24hours per day, the part would last 317,000 years.
