Compax3 Software - How Do I Setup Scaling in a Compax3?

The C3 Servo Manager helps you setup scaling through the Drive Configuration wizard. In the Distance/Travel Parameters window...

Scaling Directions:
Step 1. Select your unit. Your options are mm, increments, degrees, or inches.

Step 2. Put in the distance traveled per motor revolution. The value should be in units that you specified in step 1. If you wish to travel in decimal units set the numerator to the appropriate value.

Step 3. Setting the denominator. This value must be a nonzero integer.

Inverting commanded direction:

Step 4. Check the Invert motor Rotation/Direction Sense if you wish to invert the direction of travel.

Creating a reset distance:

Step 5. If you wish to reset the distance of travel after a certain number of units it may be entered in to the last as an integer or fraction using the "Position reset" distance boxes. This can be used to reset the encoder position every 360 degrees, or after a certain number of mm.

Scaling example:

Scaling in the Compax3 is based upon how many of your units are in 1 motor revolution. For example, lets say you are directly coupled to your load and for every one revolution of the motor, your mechanics move 360 degrees. As seen in step one, put "degrees" as your units. In step two, put "360" degrees in your numerator to set the proper number of units per revolution. Take that same application and add a gearbox with a 10:1 ratio. You are no longer directly coupled to your load, but you still need the load to move 360 degrees at the same speed. You will need to change your scaling denominator. In step three, put "10" for the denominator. Now the load will rotate at the same speed it would have if it was directly coupled even though the motor must travel 3600 degrees for every 360 the load travels.
