TASX Bit 30 -- Motor Thermal Model

An internal algorithm within the Gemini mathematically calculates the average continuous current drawn by the motor. This value is based on an assortment of software values taken from the Gemini motor configuration file. From this derived average current value, the drive then calculates the motor winding temperature rise. If this resulting calculated temperature value exceeds the value specified by the DMTMAX command, the drive will shut down, and this fault bit will enable.

REMEDIES

  1. Re-check the values established in the Gemini Motor Configuration file to verify that

    1. the correct file was downloaded for the motor being used, and the conditions in which the motor is being run are correctly represented in the Motor Configuration table (i.e., the user-defined ambient temperature value DMTAMB). An incorrectly set DMTAMB value will affect the thermal model, and lower the thermal limit of the motor.

  2. If both conditions a) and b) mentioned above are correct, then the commanded move may be too aggressive. Re-define the move so that the RMS torque is reduced. This can be done by lengthening the duty cycle, lowering the acceleration/deceleration rates, or both.
